We must not lose sight of the fact that Aristotle was a man of his time – and for that time he was extraordinarily perspicacious, acute, and advanced. Whatever their failings as “science” (construed in a 20th century manner), his scientific treatises are among the most remarkable products that the history of natural investigations has ever produced: and anyone who does not appreciate that is spiritually impoverished indeed.
